Want to provide healthier treats to trick-or-treaters this year? Below you’ll find some better-for-you snacks and sweets (no artificial ingredients or preservatives), so you can feel good about giving them out at Halloween!

This time of year, it gets extremely difficult to keep our kiddos away from sweets. Halloween candy quickly turns into Thanksgiving’s feast of pumpkin rolls and apple pies, followed by a variety of Christmas cookies. It is nearly impossible to escape the sugary desserts after every meal (and often in between meals).
While our family does try to eat wholesome, real food the majority of the time, we also can appreciate special events (like birthday parties and holidays) when we can lower our guard *just a bit* to allow for some special treats as well.
However, we’re aware that just about as soon as we begin to let down our guard to enjoy a sugary treat or two, it is extremely difficult to apply the brakes and stop indulging in ALL the sweet things. Can you relate?
During Halloween, you’ll be faced with tons of popular kids’ candies, bursting with artificial colors and sweeteners, preservatives, trans fats, corn syrup, and (obviously) sugar. These ingredients are known to contribute to behavioral issues, allergies, increased risk of cancer, diabetes, and more.
Although you may not be able to completely control all the candy your kids receive, you CAN control what you do with it. You can also choose what to give out to other families who come knocking on your door. If you’d rather not be “that” house that gives out fresh fruit, try some of the ideas below instead. Remember, sugar is sugar, so even the organic/healthier options still contain sugar; BUT, you can at least limit the extra additives in the most common junkie Halloween chocolates and candies.
Don’t forget that healthy options include more than just candy! You could also give out popcorn, stickers, small toys, etc. Don’t be afraid to be creative!
